- Geography: Hilly coastal plains with plenty of forests; were the warmest of the three regions, winters not difficult to survive, but the hot and humid summers gave rise to the spread of disease.
- Motivation: Its formation was due to a desire of the British government to protect South Carolina from invasion by the Spaniards from Florida and by the French from Louisiana, as well as to the desire of James Oglethorpe to found a refuge for the persecuted Protestant sects and the unfortunate but worthy impoverished classes of Europe.
- Industries & Economy: Concentrated on agriculture and developed the plantations exporting tobacco, cotton, corn, vegetables, grain, fruit and livestock;Crops were traded for items that could not be produced on the plantations including shoes, lace, thread, farm tools and dishes.
- Religious Aspirations: Not dominated by a specific religion which gave way to religious freedom for Baptists, Anglicans and others. Eventually became a melting pot of different beliefs. The only religion that was not welcomed was Catholicism. It was banned in Georgia until 1777, but people still practiced in separate communities.
- Government: By 1775 Georgia was governed as a Royal Colony; A Royal colony was ruled or administered by officials responsible to and appointed by the reigning sovereign of Great Britain.
- Celebrities: Cee Lo Green ; Oliver Hardy ; 2 Chainz
- Target Residents: The target residents were mostly debtors, or people who owed debt, to come and start a new life in Georgia. It also targeted farmers because of large exports of agricultural products, warm climate, and amazing lifestyle on tidewater plantations.
Analysis of why colony was founded and how this affected who moved to the colony:
As the last of the 13 colonies to be founded, James Oglethorpe founded Georgia as a safe area for debtors. Debtors were people who owed money but since they were in prison, they were not able to earn it back. Oglethorpe offered to pay for these people to live in Georgia, to which no one minded since the colony was also the border to Spain's colonies. While other people were reluctant to move here, the mostly religious freedom colony and agriculture economy survived.
Analysis of government, geography, economy, and religion.
Georgia was a royal colony, so directly under the influence of the monarch in England. Agriculture was ticket to money in Georgia, whether it be livestock, tobacco, plantations, or crops. Religion wise, Georgia was pretty free about it, the only untolerated religion was Catholicism, but it was still practiced in it's own ways. Overall, Georgia was hugely successful in industry, even if it was a bit behind on the road to self government.
