North Carolina
- Founded: 1663 by 8 nobles which got a charter from the king.
- Motivation: It was founded by supporters of Charles II for farming and trade. It later split into North and South Carolina ; Founding document: Charter of Carolina
- Government: By 1775, North Carolina was a Royal Colony
- Industries & Economy: plantations were massive and consisted of the main house, slave quarters, a dairy, blacksmith's shop, laundry, smokehouse and barns which made the plantations to large degree, self-sufficient. Basically, their main industry was in agriculture, which is how they made a living.
- Religious Aspirations: South Carolina had freedom of religion, although most residents were Protestant and the Church of England was the official church of the colony.
- The Carolinas were not separate at first, but when the people realized that the colony was too big for one governor and one assembly, especially when considering that the cities were pretty far apart, the Carolinas were eventually divided into 2 colonies, making them easier to control.
- Geography: The Southern colonies were the warmest of the three regions. The winters were not difficult to survive but the warmer climate gave rise to the spread of disease.
- Celebrities: Zac Galifianakis ; Kellie Pickler
- Target Residents: Open to all Religions, but a lot of residents who came were Protetants. The warm climate attracted a lot of people, especially farmers, and the great lifestyle on tidewater plantations made people want to come here.
Analysis of why colony was founded and how this affected who moved to the colony:
North Carolina was created when poor farmers from Virginia moved down and tended to have small farms. The tidewater plantations in the coast line were rich centered around the big white house and consisted of 20-100 slaves. On the other hand, the back country consisted of more democratic classes, hardly any slaves and more hard working people. The Carolina's and other southern countries were marked by distinct social class lines so people were put into groups in a bad way.
Analysis of government, geography, economy, and religion.
The basic factors of The Carolina's stayed the exact same, as South Carolina was just a space issue, and the colonies stayed conjoined. Government minded, North Carolina was a Royal Colony, still under the influence of England. The economy was hugely based on plantations and slaves ; The Carolina's were one of the first colonies to get involved in slave trade. Religion was a free choice in North Carolina, though most settlers were Protestant based on their religion from England. Overall, the Carolina's were stable as a colony, and very well rounded.
